📹 Security & Network Fact Sheet

Security cameras,
done the right way.

I build wired, closed-loop camera systems you actually own — no batteries to babysit, no monthly fees, and no one else holding your footage. Here's why that matters.

The big decision

Wired beats wireless — here's the honest comparison

Wireless cameras are easy to stick on a wall, but they trade away the two things a security camera needs most: reliability and uptime.

🔌 Wired (PoE) What I install

  • One cable does it all — power + data over a single Ethernet run (Power over Ethernet)
  • Never needs charging — no taking cameras down to swap or charge batteries
  • Always recording — no WiFi drops, no dead zones, no missed events
  • Sharper, smoother video — full bandwidth, no compression to save WiFi
  • Stays online in an outage when paired with a battery backup (below)

📶 Wireless / battery The trade-offs

  • Batteries die — and they always seem to die right before you need the footage
  • Depends on WiFi — congestion or distance means dropped clips
  • Lower or throttled video quality to conserve battery and bandwidth
  • Often pushes you toward a monthly cloud subscription
  • Goes dark the moment your internet or power blips
How my systems work

Built to stay online — even in a power blip

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

Each camera runs on a single network cable that carries both power and video. No outlet at the camera, no batteries, nothing to recharge — ever.

🔋

Battery backup (UPS)

I put your NVR and internet router on a UPS battery backup, so a quick power flicker or short outage won't blind your cameras. Your system keeps recording when others go dark.

🗄️

Local NVR recording

Footage records to a network video recorder (NVR) in your home — fast, reliable, and yours. Plenty of storage for weeks of continuous recording.

🔒

Closed-loop & private

Your video stays on your equipment — not on someone else's servers. You decide who can see it, and it can't be cut off by a third party.

💳

No monthly subscription

Because storage is local, there's no monthly cloud fee to keep your own footage. The system pays for itself versus subscription cameras.

📱

Watch from anywhere

Live view, alerts, and playback on your phone — with smart person / vehicle / pet detection so you only get the notifications that matter.

Your footage, your rules

Local vs. cloud storage

You choose where recordings live. I default to a local NVR — but I can configure an optional encrypted off-site copy if you want belt-and-suspenders backup.

🏠 Local (NVR) My default

  • No monthly fees — ever
  • Fast playback, no upload limits
  • Works even if your internet is down
  • Private — footage never leaves your property

☁️ Optional off-site copy Add-on

  • Encrypted backup of key footage to your own cloud/NAS
  • Protects against theft of the recorder itself
  • You control the account — not a camera company
  • Configured only if you want it
The gear I recommend

Top-of-the-line Reolink PoE cameras

I build around Reolink PoE cameras and NVRs — excellent image quality, true local recording, and no forced subscriptions. A few of the current flagships:
